Mar 13, 2009, 13:01 GMT
Oslo - Seven people were rescued from an area hit by a landslide in Namsos, central Norway on Friday, public broadcaster NRK said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but a sizeable rescue operation was underway after at least six houses and cabins were hit by the landslide on the outskirts of Namsos, northwest of Trondheim.
Police spokesman Jostein Grimstad told NRK that there were no reports of any missing people.
The rescue operation included helicopters. Divers were on standby since the impacted buildings were located on the shoreline of a bay, the online edition of the regional newspaper Namdalsavisa reported.
Local authorities set up a crisis centre at a nearby school.
The accident occurred following some blasting in connection with roadworks in the area.
The landslide was roughly 150 to 200 metres wide. Some experts suggested the landslide could be linked to quick clay.
