Kosovo committed fraud with European funds, says legislator
May 7, 2009, 8:24 GMT
Amsterdam - European legislator Jan Mulder on Thursday confirmed reports in the Dutch media that the European Parliament has filed a complaint with authorities in Kosovo concerning an alleged fraud with European Union funds.
The Dutch legislator of the Liberal party said millions of euros from European Union member states were used as bribes during the development of an airport in Kosovo's capital, Pristina.
Mulder said the budgeting committee of the European Parliament filed the complaint, but local authorities had not punished those allegedly responsible for the fraud. He also said no other measures were taken.
The MEP wants to halt all EU-member state contributions to United Nations aid programs, not just in Kosovo, until tighter control over the funding is in place.
