May 10, 2009, 1:32 GMT
Moscow - A gas pipeline exploded early Sunday south-west of Moscow, sending flames up to 300 metres in the air.
At least five people were being treated for burns, news agency RIA Novosti reported.
The fire department was attempting to bring the blaze under control and flames could be seen from several kilometres away. No homes were damaged in the blast and there was no danger of the fire spreading.
An investigation into the cause of the blast would be conducted once the fire was brought under control.
