Four dead in Chechnya suicide bombing
May 15, 2009, 12:44 GMT
Moscow - Two police officers and a passerby were killed by a suicide bomber in Chechnya Friday, the Interfax news agency reported.
The blast targeted the Ministry of the Interior in the Grozny capital of the Russian-controlled republic.
It was the first fatal attack since the Russian military officially announced last month it was terminating its mission in the region, where militant separatists have fought two separate wars for independence.
At least five other people were injured in the blast, which occurred when the suicide bomber - who also died - detonated his explosives at a control post outside the ministry.
In the neighbouring province of Dagestan on Thursday, four alleged members of a terrorist organisation were killed by agents from the Russian domestic intelligence service, the FSB. One intelligence officer was also reported killed in the skirmishes.
