May 16, 2009, 15:36 GMT
Warsaw - One person was injured and 20 arrested in clashes with police in the southern Polish city of Cracow as protesters tried Saturday to block a gay rights march through the city centre.
The demonstrators, who did not disrupt the march, attacked the police with bottles, chairs and eggs. Those arrested could face jail sentences of up to two years if convicted.
The gay rights marchers demonstrated peacefully, playing music and carrying balloons through the city, reported the PAP Polish news agency. It was the fifth such annual march in the city, located some 250 kilometres south of the capital Warsaw.
