Bielefeld dismiss coach Frontzeck
May 17, 2009, 9:48 GMT
Bielefeld, Germany - Struggling German club Arminia Bielefeld dismissed coach Michael Frontzeck Sunday, a day after a 6-0 thrashing at Borussia Dortmund.
The defeat has left Bielefeld in the relegation zone with a home match to come against Hanover.
Bielefeld said a decision would be taken by Tuesday on a replacement for former international defender Frontzeck.
Sports manager Detlev Dammeier could lead the team for the last match of the season, in which Bielefeld will be attempting to avoid direct relegation.
Saturday's heavy defeat was the ninth game in a row without a win, leaving Bielefeld three points adrift of Borussia Moenchengladbach, the next team above them.
Bielefeld now only have an outside chance of escaping the last three but 16th place in the 18-team league would put them into a relegation and promotion play-off with the third-placed team in the second division.
Also aiming to avoid relegation are Energie Cottbus - level on 27 points with Bielefeld - and bottom club Karlsruhe, one point behind.
Frontzeck is the fifth Bundesliga coach to be sacked this season following Jos Luhukay (Moenchengladbach), Armin Veh (VfB Stuttgart), Fred Rutten (Schalke 04) and Juergen Klinsmann (Bayern Munich).
