Paris - A gunman who went on a rampage in a town in the Alsace region overnight, shooting dead one person, surrendered to police Friday morning, French media reports said.
The man had holed himself up in his apartment, which was then surrounded by police, after the nighttime incident in which he had shot dead one person and wounded another.
The reports said that the man, 59, was apparently angered by nighttime street noise cause by youths.
The radio broacaster RTL said that the man first fired three times into a group of young people. Later, he fired twice at a vehicle driving past, seriously wounding the driver in the eye.
The incident took place in the town of Guemar, some 300 kilometres east of the capital Paris.
