Tenerife, Xerez and Zaragoza promoted to Spanish first division
Jun 13, 2009, 19:24 GMT
Madrid - Tenerife, Xerez and Zaragoza were promoted to the Spanish first division on Saturday, with one round of matches to spare.
Tenerife, who have been absent from La Liga since 2002, won 1-0 away to Girona to maintain the top spot.
Xerez, who have never been in the top flight, beat Huesca 2-1 at home, provoking a friendly pitch invasion.
Zaragoza clinched third place by beating Cordoba 3-1 at home. The 2001 and 2004 King's Cup winner have only been in the second division for one season, having been surprisingly relegated in 2008.
Tenerife, Xerez and Zaragoza will replace Betis, Numancia and Recreativo Huelva, who were relegated from La Liga in May.
