Bielefeld refuse to comment on coach Matthaeus report
Jun 16, 2009, 10:00 GMT
Bielefeld, Germany - Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday refused to comment on a report linking Lothar Matthaeus with the coaching job at the relegated Bundesliga club.
'I will not comment on names,' general manager Detlev Dammeier told the German Press Agency dpa.
The Bild daily reported Tuesday that the former Germany captain Matthaeus was a candidate for the Bielefeld job, with local businessmen reportedly ready to pay his salary.
Matthaeus, 48, captained Germany to the 1990 World Cup title and is the nation's record capped player with 150 games. He has been a coach since 2001 but is yet to train a team in his home country.
Matthaeus has also been linked with Hungarian club Fehervar over the past days.
Bielefeld are without a coach since Michael Frontzeck was sacked last month ahead of the final league match of the season in which Joerg Berger acted as a 90-minutes caretaker.
