Shots on pitch leaves one man dead, eight wounded
Jun 26, 2009, 9:18 GMT
Rome - A man was killed and eight young footballers were wounded by rifle shots fired during a five-a-side football game in the southern Italian town of Crotone, news reports said on Friday.
Police have so far not been unable to identify the gunman, who late Thursday left a 35-year-old man dead and a boy seriously wounded in the head as he scrambled from the pitch with the other players.
As the victim appears to have no legal problems, police have ruled out an involvement of criminal organizations active in the Calabria region.
