NATO, Russia agree to kick off new era of cooperation (Urgent)
Jun 27, 2009, 16:48 GMT
Corfu, Greece - NATO and Russia agreed to relaunch formal cooperation on security threats on Saturday, following their first top-level talks since the Georgia war soured relations last year.
Gathering on the Greek island of Corfu, foreign ministers from the 28 NATO states and Russia agreed to relaunch formal cooperation on security issues ranging from counter-terrorism to piracy.
Relations between the alliance and Russia were suspended for almost a year after Russian forces invaded Georgia after that country's troops attacked the Georgian breakaway province of South Ossetia.
