Nobel science winners meet near Lake Constance
Jun 28, 2009, 16:32 GMT
Lindau, Germany - Young scientists met Sunday with 23 Nobel Prize laureates at Lindau on the German shore of Lake Constance to debate the future of science.
Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the EU Commission, which helps fund the annual Lindau seminar, was declared an 'honorary senator' among the ex-winners.
He told them he feared that an ecological crisis would pose a bigger risk to the earth than the current financial crisis, saying: 'We cannot wait until the crisis breaks out. Scientists must tell us what to do.'
Former winners of the chemistry, medicine and physics prizes are to meet until Friday with 580 up-and-coming scientists from 67 nations to inspire their research.
