Villarreal sign young defender Marcano from Santander

Madrid - Spanish giants Villarreal late Friday announced the signing of defender Ivan Marcano from Racing Santander for an undisclosed fee.
Marcano, 22, has signed a six-year contract with Villarreal, who finished fifth last season in La Liga. Two months ago it was rumoured that he was about to sign for Real Madrid, who in the end opted for Raul Albiol from Valencia.
Marcano has been a Spanish under-21 international who can play either in the centre of defence or at left-back.
