Three suspected ETA members arrested in France
Jul 4, 2009, 17:24 GMT
Paris/Madrid - Three suspected members of the militant Basque separatist group ETA were arrested in France Saturday in a joint operation between Spanish and French police.
The three were among the most wanted ETA members, according to police sources in Madrid. Among them was fugitive Asier Borrero, who was being sought in connection with several bomb attacks in Spain.
The group's suspected military chief Jurdan Martitegi was arrested in France in April.
Two weeks ago, a Spanish police official was killed in a car bomb attack for which authorities said ETA was to blame.
ETA, which has been campaigning for independence for more than four decades, is held responsible for more than 820 deaths since 1968.
The group has been seriously weakened by police crackdowns and its declining support.
