Jul 5, 2009, 16:21 GMT
Sofia - Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov's opposition GERB party has won the most votes in the Bulgarian parliamentary elections, the Gallup Institute projected seconds after the voting ended Sunday.
According to the pollsters, GERB (Citizens for Bulgaria's European Development) is set to claim 106 out of the 240 legislative seats and will need several coalition partners for the majority.
Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev's Socialist Party was tipped to win only 48 seats, Gallup said. Two or three smaller parties were also expected to qualify for the parliament by winning at least 4 per cent of the votes cast.
