Serbia's Exit music festival begins
Jul 9, 2009, 11:56 GMT
Belgrade - British pop diva Lily Allen will be the top act Thursday on the opening of the annual Exit music festival, with some tens of thousands of visitors flocking to enjoy the Balkans' biggest music event.
The lineup during the four day festival that ends Sunday includes music legend Patti Smith, The Prodigy, Madness and some 500 other acts.
Exit, on its 10th anniversary this year, will also feature a film festival and other activities focusing on environmental issues.
The festival is held, as always, at the Petrovaradin fortress near town of Novi Sad, some 80 kilometres north of capital Belgrade.
The first festival was held in 2000 as a sign of protest against late strongman Slobodan Milosevic. In following years it became extremely popular, especially among Britons who voted it the best festival in 2007.
More details on the festival are available at www.exitfest.org.
