Zaragoza announce signing of winger Pennant
Jul 10, 2009, 8:08 GMT
Madrid - Newly-promoted Spanish Liga club Zaragoza announced Friday the signing of English winger Jermaine Pennant.
Pennant, 26, has signed a three-year contract with Zaragoza. He was a free agent after finishing his contract at Liverpool, who had loaned him out to Portsmouth.
The Nottingham-born winger will have the chance to rebuild his career in La Liga, a career that has clearly been on the slide in the past few years.
Zaragoza's website quotes Pennant as saying that 'I wanted to come to Spain and I have rejected offers from important teams in Europe in order to sign for Zaragoza. I am very keen to start and to do things well in La Liga.'
Pennant is the first Englishman ever to play for Zaragoza, who have just returned to La Liga after one season in the second division.
He is their first summer signing. They are also interested in Juan Pablo Carrizo, Ikechuwku Uche and Victor Casadesus.
