Form a government soon, EU urges Moldova

Brussels - Moldova's political parties should form a government as quickly as possible to avoid the kind of riots which shook the country in April, European Union officials said Thursday.
'The immediate priority is to put in place a government, and I urge all the political parties to engage in open and constructive dialogue,' EU Foreign Affairs Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said.
The EU's top diplomat, Javier Solana, echoed that message, calling on Moldova's politicians to elect a president and form a government 'in a speedy and inclusive manner.'
Both officials also hailed the peaceful conduct of the elections, less than four months after an earlier parliamentary vote ended with mass rioting and allegations of vote-rigging by the ruling Communist party.
And they urged the country not to return to those divisions in the coming days as opposition parties and the Communists, who lost their absolute majority in this week's poll but who are still the largest party, try to forge an administration.
'The Republic of Moldova should regain political stability. Good governance is of utmost importance,' Solana said.
