Spanish youth killed in bull run
Aug 18, 2009, 12:48 GMT
Pamplona, Spain - A 16-year-old boy on Tuesday became the fifth person to be killed by bulls or calves in Spanish bull festivals this year, local officials said.
The boy was knocked over by a bull which was accompanying cows and calves that had been let loose during a festival honouring the patron saint of Cabanillas in the northern region of Navarre.
The youth died of chest injuries at hospital. Cabanillas interrupted the annual festival in a sign of mourning.
Spanish summer festivals frequently feature bull runs, in which people run alongside bulls heading for the bullring.
The country's most famous bull runs, staged in honour of Pamplona's patron Saint Fermin, take place in July. This year, the week-long bull runs killed a man and injured more than 400 other people.
Five people have been killed in bull runs or bullfights with young bulls so far in 2009.
