Man held after three killed at German campground (Roundup)
Aug 23, 2009, 13:20 GMT
Coesfeld, Germany - Police arrested a 33-year-old man after his former girlfriend and her parents were found stabbed to death at a campground in the west of Germany on Sunday.
Police in Coesfeld said an emergency call was made at 3 am (0100 GMT) from the campsite south of the town. When officers arrived, they found three bodies in a wooden hut.
Police said the victims were the man's ex-girlfriend, aged 29, and her parents, both in their 50s. All three had numerous stab wounds and cuts, a police spokesman said.
The 10-month-old daughter of the suspect and his former companion survived the bloodbath unharmed and was currently being looked after at a nearby hospital, the spokesman said.
Police said they found bloodstained knives and a Samurai sword in the man's car.
Police speculated that a dispute over child support could have been a motive for the killings.
Coesfeld is located some 30 kilometres north of the Ruhr valley industrial region in western Germany.
