Naples mafia suspect arrested in his underground bunker
Aug 24, 2009, 16:18 GMT
Naples, Italy - Italian police on Monday arrested a top mafia suspect when they raided his underground bunker hideout near Naples, news reports said.
Giuseppe Bastone, 28, who appears on a list of Italy's 100 most- wanted criminals, had been on the run since 2008, the ANSA news agency reported.
Authorities believed Bastone is a major drug trafficker for the Neapolitan version of the mafia, the Camorra.
Police found him when they climbed down a trapdoor leading to a three-by-three-metre concrete-walled room.
The hideout - furnished with a fridge, television set and a DVD player - was connected to a narrow, 200-metre underground escape tunnel that resurfaced in an open field.
