Five arrested in connection with munitions factory blast in Serbia
Sep 5, 2009, 13:13 GMT
Belgrade - Serbian police Saturday said five people had been arrested and that a 'human factor' was behind a series of explosions at a munitions factory in Uzice where seven people died Thursday.
'Five workers (in the factory) were arrested under suspicion of causing public danger and not following safety procedures,' Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic told Tanjug news agency.
Several blasts occurred Thursday night in the Prvi Partizan factory in Uzice, some 200 kilometres south of Belgrade. Seven workers died and 14 were injured.
'We are gathering evidence and trying to determine what was the responsibility of other employees and the management of the factory,' police said in a statement.
The explosion in Uzice is the worst since World War Two when in a never clarified explosion more than 100 died.
