Eto'o, Milito seal Inter Milan win over minnows Parma (Roundup)
By Alberto Cagliano Sep 13, 2009, 21:13 GMT
Rome - Two late classy shots from Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito Sunday allowed Italian champions Inter Milan to edge promoted visitors Parma 2-0.
The title holders remained two points adrift of Genoa and Sampdoria and Juventus, who moved atop the Serie A on nine points through a 2-0 win Saturday over solid hosts Lazio, while newcomers Livorno held struggling giants AC Milan to a 0-0 draw.
Sampdoria on Sunday beat hosts Atalanta 1-0 through a goal that Daniele Mannini scored after the second-half dismissal of his Argentine midfield mate Fernando Tissone.
Red cards were waved during Genoa's late home game to Napoli, who took the lead through Marek Hamsik after home defender Domenico Criscito was sent off on 28 minutes.
A spot kick converted by Sergio Floccari allowed Genoa to level as Argentine Hugo Campagnaro was dismissed in the action.
After the break, Giandomenico Mesto, Hernan Crespo and Houssine Kharja made the score 4-1 for Genoa as Napoli had Salvatore Aronica dismissed for causing the final spot kick.
There was not much fun for Inter fans for most of the game at the Giuseppe Meazza, where Parma ran few risks in the first half and threatened on a couple of occasions with swift counterattacks.
Dutchman Wesley Sneijder fired home a stray ball on 11 minutes, but the guests' goalkeeper Antonio Mirante denied him with a springy dive before Eto'o missed a close-range deflection on the ensuing corner kick.
After a sterile first half, Jose Mourinho tried to add steam to his striking package, bringing on Mario Balotelli for Thiago Motta, but the young striker botched a simple close-range flick on 50 minutes.
Eto'o's class bore a first fruit on 71 minutes, when he curled a perfect drive around Mirante from the limit of the area. With one minute to go, the Cameroon star served a great feed for Argentina's Milito, who controlled and fired home in similar fashion from closer range.
Fiorentina won 1-0 over Cagliari through an Alberto Gilardino header and lie level with Inter, while Udinese beat Catania 4-2 as Antonio Di Natale scored a hat-trick for a six-goal tally.
After two defeats, Roma came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win at 10-man Siena in the first game under their new Rome-born coach Claudio Ranieri.
'The main thing was to achieve a positive result,' Ranieri said. 'The boys were stressed out because they truly liked (former coach Luciano) Spalletti. There was tension, insecurity and fear, but I saw the team get into the game after levelling.'
Chievo won 2-0 at Bologna and Palermo and Bari drew 1-1 in a game that was delayed by a rainstorm.
