Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha dies at 86

Barcelona - Alicia de Larrocha, Spain's most important classical pianist of the 20th Century, died at the age of 86 in her hometown of Barcelona, a local hospital reported Saturday.
De Larrocha - the winner of numerous awards including two Grammy awards and the Spanish National Music Prize - passed away over night from a cardiorespiratory ailment.
Playing alongside the most renowned orchestras in the world, de Larrocha possessed a repertory that included Mozart, Robert Schumann and Spanish composers such as Isaac Albeniz.
She gave her first concert at the age of six at a World Exhibition in Barcelona, and at 11 she was playing with Madrid Symphony Orchestra.
Described by the daily El Pais as 'an artist of an extraordinary maturity,' de Larrocha went on a farewell tour at the age of 80 and continued making concert appearances afterwards.
