Russia confirms date for Clinton arms control meeting
Oct 3, 2009, 12:32 GMT
Moscow - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will meet her opposite number, Sergei Lavrov, in Moscow for arms control talks on October 13, the Russian foreign ministry confirmed Saturday.
The talks will focus on a first draft of the successor to the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).
The past talks at the expert level in Geneva transpired in a 'business-like contructive atmosphere,' the Interfax news agency quoted the foreign ministry as saying.
The US State Department on Friday stated that Clinton would travel to Russia for talks on negotiations at the end of an October 9-15 trip that also included stops in London, Dublin and Belfast.
START expires at the end of this year. President Barack Obama has said he wants to reduce the levels of nuclear weapons held by each side.
