Spanish police on hunt for escaped lion
Oct 6, 2009, 10:32 GMT
Tarragona, Spain - Spanish police Tuesday mounted a large-scale operation to track down a female lion which had scared joggers in the east of the country.
Police using two helicopters were searching for the animal in the frontier area between the provinces of Tarragona, Teruel and Castellon.
The lioness had been seen by several people near La Senia in Tarragona province. It was thought possible it had escaped from a circus or from someone who had kept it illegally as a pet.
People who encountered the animal should keep calm and avoid abrupt reactions, veterinarian Cati Gerique advised.
