Signing of Turkish-Armenian delayed by two hours (Extra)
Oct 10, 2009, 17:00 GMT
Zurich - The signing of Turkish-Armenian protocols to pave the way for normalized diplomatic ties has been delayed over the wording on statements to be issued by the two sides and the format of the ceremony, diplomats in Zurich said Saturday.
The signing had been scheduled to take place at 1500 GMT at Zurich University, with Turkey represented by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Armenia by his counterpart Eduard Nalbandian.
US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner were in Zurich for the ceremony.
The deal between the two countries that broke off relations in 1993, was negotiated by the Swiss and announced six weeks ago.
