Moscow - At least 92 persons were injured when a reserve locomotive ploughed into the passenger train it was supposed to help, the Russian railroad company RZD disclosed Sunday.
The accident occurred on Saturday near the city of Tambov, some 500 kilometres south-east of Moscow. Eight of the injured passengers were taken to hospital for treatment, RZD said on its website.
It said that just before reaching its destination, the passenger train had come to a halt due to a breakdown of the locomotive. Then the replacement locomotive rammed into the train, under circumstances which were not yet clarified, RZD said.
