Madrid - Spanish novelist Angeles Caso, 50, has been awarded this year's Planeta Prize, the most lucrative literary award of the Spanish-speaking world, press reports said Friday.
Caso was awarded the prize worth 601,000 euros (897,000 dollars) in Barcelona overnight.
Caso won the award for her novel Contra el Viento (Against the Wind), which tells the story of a Cape Verdean woman who emigrates to Portugal and Spain, based partly on the life of Caso's own nanny.
'The novel pays tribute to the heroines of the 21st century, in this case, Cape Verdean immigrant women,' Caso said.
The Planeta Prize has been awarded by the Planeta publishing house since 1952.
