German state bans neo-Nazi group with 30 members in Berlin

Berlin - The German state of Berlin on Thursday outlawed a neo-Nazi group which has 30 members who wear a black-shirt uniform. Frontbann 24 was named after a precursor to the Nazi Party's first private militia, the SA. The original Frontbann was set up in 1924. Ehrhart Koerting, the interior minister of Berlin state, issued the banning order after police raided the homes of two leading members of the group and seized Nazi souvenirs. Koerting said the group had been set up last year and its propaganda insulted foreigners and Jews. Germany has repeatedly banned neo-Nazi groups under laws designed to prevent any return of the ideology of dictator Adolf Hitler. Banning means a seizure of assets and a threat of prosecution if the members meet again. Frontbann 24 is a faction that had splintered from the far-right National Democratic Party, police said. The group's black shirts have an eagle embroidered on the pocket and the name Frontbann on the collar.
