Schwerin, Germany - German light-heavyweight boxing world champion Juergen Braehmer was Tuesday sentenced to 16 months in prison for two cases of assault and insulting behaviour.
A court in Schwerin found 31-year-old Braehmer guilty of insulting and assaulting a woman in a discotheque in the eastern German city. He had earlier punched and injured a bar owner.
The offences took place while Braehmer was serving a suspended sentence for a previous conviction.
Braehmer defended his World Boxing Organization title on December 20 in Schwerin with a points victory over Russian Dmitry Sukhotski.
