Jan 19, 2010, 10:14 GMT
Madrid - Spain is to send a military logistics support vessel with about 500 soldiers on board to help in the Haiti relief effort, the daily El Pais said Tuesday.
The vessel was due to leave the southern Spanish naval base of Rota over the week-end and arrive in Haiti more than 10 days later.
It could carry up to seven helicopters, a medical and a security team, engineers and equipment for installing drinking water and electricity facilities, the daily said.
Spanish military support vessels have participated in previous international aid operations. The government was expected to announce details of the Haiti operation later Tuesday.
