Six rebels killed in Chechnya
Feb 4, 2010, 14:32 GMT
Moscow - Russian special forces have killed at least six Islamist rebels in Chechnya, the republic's President Ramzan Kadyrov said Thursday.
A further 10 to 15 rebels were being hunted in a forest in the mountains of the North Caucasian republic, he added.
The Kremlin has charged Kadyrov with the 'destruction' of the 'bandits', as they are officially described.
The Islamists are fighting for the establishment of an independent Caucasian emirate in the region.
There are signs that 'Arab terrorists' may be among those killed, said Kadyrov.
