Belgrade - Serbian opposition leader Velimir Ilic was attacked and slightly injured Friday in downtown Belgrade, local media reported.
Ilic, the leader of Nova Serbia party, was hit in the head by a man who was immediately arrested. Police had to protect the man from angry Ilic supporters who wanted to beat him.
The politician was holding a rally in downtown Belgrade, collecting signatures for early parliamentary elections in Serbia. He is well-known for his bad temper and occasional attacks on journalists.
Ilic demanded severe punishment for the attacker, saying the man had hit him in the place of a previous operation.
