Rummenigge accuses German football federation of serious mistakes
Feb 9, 2010, 9:44 GMT
Munich - Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has accused the German football federation (DFB) of making serious mistakes in their negotiations with national coach Joachim Loew.
The DFB announced in December that they had reached an agreement with Loew on a contract extension, but last week both sides said that negotiations had broken down.
Rummenigge said in Blickpunkt Sport that the DFB made serious mistakes. 'They announced a verbal agreement which obviously did not exist. Even worse though, they allowed internal discussions to be made public.'
A wedge has now been drawn between Loew and team manager Oliver Bierhoff on the one hand and the DFB on the other hand, he said.
Rummenigge still believes that there is a chance to reach an agreement with Loew and suggested the DFB finds one as soon as possible.
'The man deserves respect and a serious contract offer,' he said.
Loew had said on the weekend that he would now be concentrating on World Cup preparations and that he did not want to discuss a contract extension until after the World Cup.
