Fans of beleaguered Lazio invade club headquarters
Feb 9, 2010, 15:42 GMT
Rome - Police clashed with fans of Lazio who Tuesday afternoon burst into the team's training ground to protest against the struggling Serie A side as it appears set on hiring a new coach.
Italian media reported that about 100 fans tore down a gate and entered the premises hurling stones and smoke bombs as the team was readying to begin a training session.
The police managed to get the violent fans out of the club headquarters, where hundred of others were standing.
Three people were injured in the clash and five were arrested.
A 1-0 home defeat to Catania Sunday dropped the Rome side into the three-team relegation zone on 22 points from 23 games, with 15 remaining to season's end.
Club president Claudio Lotito appears set to replace Davide Ballardini with Edy Reja, who is currently under contract with Croatian side Hajduk Split.
