Danish premier calls new diplomat meeting on climate change
Feb 9, 2010, 15:56 GMT
Copenhagen - Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen on Tuesday said he has invited foreign diplomats in Denmark to meet in April to discuss the outcome of the recent UN climate change summit hosted in Copenhagen.
Rasmussen cancelled a planned meeting with the some 80 ambassadors in January at short notice, and was criticized in Danish media over opting to take care of his teenage daughter who had suffered a sprained foot.
The premier said this was 'a cock and bull story' but declined to spell out why he had cancelled the meeting, citing that it was a family matter.
The UN climate change summit in December resulted in a voluntary accord after developed and developing countries failed to agree on binding targets for emission cuts.
A new climate change summit is due to be held at the end of the year in Mexico.
Several recent opinion polls have suggested a drop in approval rating for Rasmussen and his centre-right minority government.
