Valencia veteran Albelda out of action for at least two weeks
Feb 27, 2010, 14:44 GMT
Madrid - Spanish giants Valencia announced on Saturday that David Albelda will be out of action for at least two weeks.
Albelda, 32, tore the femoral biceps muscle in his left leg at the end of Thursday's thrilling 3-0 Europa league home win against Club Brugge.
The veteran midfield anchorman will miss Valencia's upcoming league matches against Atletico Madrid and Racing Santander, as well as the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie at home to Werder Bremen.
Valencia are third in La Liga and one of the favourites to win the Europa League, after their extra-time destruction of Brugge.
Albelda was the captain of Valencia from 2002 to 2007, helping 'Los Ches' to win two league titles and one UEFA Cup.
In 2007 he - along with fellow veterans Santiago Canizares and Miguel Angel Angulo - was controversially suspended by then coach Ronald Koeman.
Albelda was reinstated by Koeman's successor, Unai Emery, and has been a key man for the past two seasons, with his indefatigable defensive work in midfield.
