Heroine of French Resistance dies in Britain, aged 105
Mar 8, 2010, 16:30 GMT
London - A highly-decorated female member of the French Resistance during World War II has died at her home in Britain, aged 105, it was reported Monday.
Andree Peel, known as Agent Rose, is credited with having saved the lives of dozens of British and US pilots in Nazi-occupied Europe.
She herself narrowly escaped being lined up for the firing squad at Buchenwald concentration camp near Weimar, Germany, when it was liberated by the US army in April, 1945.
Peel moved from Paris to Britain after marrying an Englishman after the war and lived at Long Ashton, near Bristol, the BBC said. She was awarded numerous French and US medals for her bravery.
