Norway win Nordic combined team event
Mar 13, 2010, 15:58 GMT
Oslo - Magnus Moan came from behind on Saturday to anchor Norway to victory over Olympic champions Austria in a Nordic combined skiing World Cup team event.
Moan made up a 25-second deficit at the final exchange and made his deciding attack against Mario Stecher on the last climb as he won the 4x5-kilometres cross-country relay together with Petter Tande, Mikko Kokslien and Jan Schmid in 49 minutes 13.3 seconds.
The Austrians trailed by 7.3 seconds and Germany came third, 1:11.2 seconds behind. The Germans had led the way after the morning jumping portion ahead of Austria and Norway.
The leading nations had originally pondered a boycott of the Oslo event in anger over the highly unfair conditions due to changing winds at the jumping portion of the recent Olympic large hill event.
Instead, the athletes unfurled a big banner at the finish line of the team event which read: 'Message to FIS. This is our goal: Treat us with respect.'
The Nordic combined season is completed on Sunday with an individual event. Jason Lamy Chappuis of France is already assured of the World Cup title.
