Beckham, Nesta to leave clinics after surgery
Mar 17, 2010, 13:13 GMT
Rome - AC Milan and England midfielder David Beckham was set to leave a clinic in Finland later Wednesday after undergoing surgery on a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
'He is recovering well. He is moving on crutches,' said doctor Sakari Orava, who Monday performed surgery in a clinic in Turku.
'He manages to move a little better everyday. Everything is going as planned.'
While Beckham, 34, is recovering well, his season is still over as the specialist Orava said before the operation that he saw no chances for recovery in time for the World Cup in South Africa which kicks off on June 11.
Milan defender, Alessandro Nesta, meanwhile, is upbeat that he can return to action before the end of the Serie A season from a knee injury which also required an operation, the club's web site reported on Wednesday as he was set to leave a Rome clinic.
The full back, who turns 34 on Friday, had been sidelined since suffering pain in his right knee during a league game against Atalanta on February 28. He was operated Monday at the Villa Stuart clinic to treat a damaged tendon and meniscus.
'Before the operation we thought it was difficult that I could return by the end of the league (on May 16),' Nesta said.
'During the operation they saw that there was still a piece of tendon attached, therefore the absence should be shorter. As usual, now I'll roll up my sleeves and get to work.'
