Germany and Qatar to develop political and economic ties
Mar 18, 2010, 17:04 GMT
Berlin - German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and the Qatari Vice-Premier Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah agreed on Thursday to develop political and economic ties, during talks in Berlin.
The leaders also discussed the Middle East peace process and Iran's controversial nuclear enrichment programme.
Westerwelle and Al-Attiyah agreed that Qatar offered opportunities for German businesses in the energy sector - in particular renewables - as well as transport and logistics.
With regards to the Middle East, both leaders called for the peace process to resume as soon as possible, and said the expansion of Israeli settlement activities was not in line with the 2003 'road map' peace plan.
Westerwelle stressed that Iran's ongoing refusal to cooperate with IAEA demands could not remain unanswered by the international community of states, according to a statement issued by the foreign ministry.
