Madrid - Deportivo Coruna and Athletic Bilbao both missed the chance to move up to fourth in the Spanish Liga on Saturday, at home to supposedly weaker opposition.
Deportivo surprisingly crashed 2-0 at home to lowly Valladolid, Bilbao were held 2-2 by defiant Getafe.
These results confirm that fourth place us still completely up for grabs.
Sevilla - who are away to Espanyol in Saturday's late game - are still in the driving seat, in fourth place. They have 44 points, three less than third-placed Almeria.
Then come Mallorca on 43, and Bilbao and Deportivo together on 42.
'We have wasted a very good chance today,' said Deportivo's Alberto Lopo. 'We expected to get three points from this match, but we were not sharp enough at either end of the field.'
Nauzet Aleman gave Valladolid the lead five minutes before half- time with a powerful left-foot drive, Haris Medunjanin sealed the unlikely win by making it 2-0 in injury time after taking a pass from fellow sub Marcos.
Valladolid are still third from bottom, but now have a little more hope.
Bilbao, meanwhile, conceded a disappointing late draw at home to Getafe, who were without injured star striker Roberto Soldado.
Pablo Orbaiz put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute after being set up by Spain striker Fernando Llorente, only for Manu del Moral to level for Getafe in the 33rd minute.
Nine minutes from time Llorente made it 2-1 for Bilbao from the penalty spot, but Pedro Leon gave Getafe a draw three minutes from the end after good work by Miku.
Orbaiz was sent off for Bilbao, Miguel Torres for Getafe.
Saturday's other early game saw bottom team Xerez beat fellow strugglers 2-1, with goals from Mario Bermejo and Aythami.
It was only Xerez's fourth win of the season and will do them little good now. They have just 18 points, followed by Tenerife and Valladolid on 23, Zaragoza on 26, and Santander and Malaga on 27.
