World Cup opener - costly affair for Danish businesses
Jun 14, 2010, 16:48 GMT
Copenhagen - Denmark's opening match in the World Cup against the Netherlands on Monday cost an estimated 150 million dollars in lower production, the Danish Chamber of Commerce said.
The organisation estimated that 1.1 million Danes spent close to two hours at work following the football match in South Africa, resulting in a fall in production - even though not all work activity grounded to a complete halt.
The estimate was compiled on behalf of broadcaster TV2.
Denmark has some 5.5 million inhabitants.
