Stuttgart coach Gross torn over possible Khedira, Tasci sales
Jul 1, 2010, 13:00 GMT
Stuttgart - VfB Stuttgart coach Christian Gross is readiying himself for a possible sale of Germany midfielder Sami Khedira and has mixed feelings about it.
Gross said in newspaper interviews published on Thursday that the midfielder Khedira and defender Serdar Tasci, who is also on the World Cup squad, could be summer sales.
Khedira, 23, who has started in all four Germany games in South Africa, has a contract until 2011 and only a sale now would generate a transfer fee. Tasci's deal runs until 2014.
Gross would regret a departure but at the same time will only have money available for new desired forwards through the sale of other players.
'It the moment it appears that we can only buy new players if he generate transfer income. And it would really hurt if Sami Khedira leaves for free next year,' Gross told the Stuttgarter Zeitung.
Bild quoted him as saying: 'Sami is a home-grown player. If the club has a philosophy of working with young players there should also be the chance to sell a player in the best way from an economic point of view.'
Khedira has told Stuttgart that he will play there next season but Gross is convinced that interest from big clubs in England or Spain will rise even more 'if he plays another three strong matches at the World Cup' (Stuttgarter Nachrichten).
