International film festival opens in Czech town Karlovy Vary
Jul 2, 2010, 18:50 GMT
Prague - The 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, a category A film fest known for drawing youthful crowds rather than scores of silver screen stars, opened on Friday in the Czech spa town of the same name.
Awards in Karlovy Vary are waiting for British actor Jude Law and Russia's famed director Nikita Mikhalkov.
Twelve feature films will compete for the festival's main prize, the Crystal Globe, including Hitler in Hollywood by Belgian director Frederic Sojcher and The Mosquito Net, a film by Spanish director Agusti Vila that stars Geraldine Chaplin.
They will be judged by a seven-member grand jury headed by Ron Yerxa, a US producer whose work includes the 2003 American Civil War drama Cold Mountain.
The nine-day festival will show 204 films in 24 sections, the festival's website said.
