Swedish triple jumper Olsson abstains from European championships
Jul 23, 2010, 12:15 GMT
Stockholm - Swedish triple jumper Christian Olsson has confirmed he will not compete at next week's year's European championships fearing he would pick up a new injury, reports said Friday.
'He feels he is not quite ready,' Olsson's coach Yannick Tregaro was quoted as saying.
The two-time European Champion is instead aiming for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Olsson, 30, was one of the Swedish athletes that had been tipped as a contender for a medal at the Barcelona event. But he has struggled with injuries in recent years, missing out on the 2008 Olympic Games at Beijing. He won the triple jump at the 2004 Athens Games.
