Kosovo seeks increased diplomatic recognition
Jul 30, 2010, 2:07 GMT
New York - Kosovo's Foreign Minister Skender Hyseni issued a call Thursday at the United Nations for greater diplomatic recognition of his country.
A week after The Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Kosovo's 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia was not in breach of international law, Hyseni met with representatives from numerous UN member states, at UN headquarters in New York.
Kosovo's independence sets 'no precedents for any other nation in the world,' he said.
Hyseni said that he hopes to gain recognition for Kosovo from countries such as Spain and Greece, which are among countries with fears that diplomatic relations with Kosovo could inspire breakaway efforts in their own restive regions.
