Italian news agency to launch Farsi website
Aug 13, 2010, 14:31 GMT
Rome - Italian news agency Adnkronos International (AKI) announced it is to launch a Farsi-language website in September.
'The idea is to form a multicultural bridge between the West and the Arab and Persian world, to make sure that relevant cultural, political and economic news items are properly disseminated,' Adnkronos' president, Giuseppe Marra, told the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano.
Farsi is widely spoken in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and to some extent in Armenia, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Bahrain, and Oman.
Rome-based Adnkronos, one of Italy's largest news agencies, launched AKI in 2003. The international service currently provides news in Arabic, English and Italian.
AKI also plans to open bureaus in Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, but a timeframe has yet to be specified.
