Berlin - Italian actress Isabella Rossellini is to head the jury at next year's Berlinale Film Festival, organizers announced Monday.
'She is a multifaceted, creative film artist with extensive experience in European, American and international cinema,' said festival Director Dieter Kosslick.
Rossellini, the daughter of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman and of Italian director Roberto Rossellini, reached fame when she appeared in David Lynch's 1986 film Blue Velvet. She has also worked as a model and journalist.
The actress first attended the Berlinale in 1994 when she starred in Peter Weir's competition film Fearless.
In 2005 she presented My Dad is 100 Years Old, in honour of her father, at the Berlin film festival. Her directorial debut, Green Porno, about the sex lives of insects, was screened at the festival in 2008.
Rossellini will appear in The Solitude of Prime Numbers, an Italian film by Saverio Costanzo, which will run at the Venice Film Festival next month.
Earlier this year, the 58-year-old acted in the movie adaptation of the graphic novel Chicken with Plums, filmed in the Babelsberg film studios near Berlin.
